Right to Know-worldwide any questions?

A Right to Know Day panel that includes me (under my Twitter handle FOIGuru) is happy to respond to any questions about right to know, information access and related questions on Reddit. 

But at 11.30pm local time in Sydney, with 28 September drawing to a close here as other parts of the world awake, I'll chime in with my take in the morning. Good night all.

Australia going backwards on protection of privacy and information access

At a time when threats to privacy abound including from a federal government that lays claim to a watchdog role to safeguard our right to privacy, a government whose leader before the 2013 election committed to increasing government transparency and accountablity, Australia today has no permanent federal information commissioner , no federal privacy commissioner, and no federal freedom of information commissioner.  The Office of Australian Information Commissioner established in 2010 to enable the commissioners to carry out their functions with an initial estimate of staff required of 100, now has around 65. Open, transparent government: Australia struggling to join the dots

The Australian government seems to have kept its distance from the Open Government Partnership Global Summit in Mexico City last week while c lose to 3000 by some calculations gathered there to discuss, explore, share and learn about enhancing open, transparent government and citizen participation . In a week when Environment M inister Greg Hunt was speaking in Beijing " attempting to re-assert the nation's eco-credentials on the world stage after the removal of Tony Abbott as prime minister " the government did little to assure domestic and international audiences that the Abbott era 'war on transparency' was a thing of the past.
